Did you know the Buffalo Head Nickel was struck by the US Mint from 1913 until 1938 and was originally copper? Fashioned by a sculptor, James E. Fraser, it was said that he used the likeness of several Native American Men.  It was also said that the newly minted coin needed to show truly American Themes.... What's more American than the Natives?  When I started painting the series, Westbound Kaleidoscope, I wanted to make sure that faces and voices of our Native American brothers and sisters were not drowned out... and what a better way to do that than with love and the boldest colors.  For a Nickel is paying homage to the many Natives whos value has been reduced and the importance and significance of each tribe deminished through the years.  They each have voices. And they each deserve our hope, love and peace.
